The
2000 Floods
Do you remember
the building of the floodbank, following mining subsidence under
the washland to the North of the village, and the controversy
that it caused? Do you remember the floods of 2000.
Click
Here
if
you would like to see a video [ just over 12 minutes long, ] about
the floodbank's construction and the flooding in 2005.
It
will begin to load as soon as the page loads, but ideally, wait
until it is fully loaded before viewing - Broadband is definitely
advisable.

Millenium
year brought devastating flooding. Fortunately no houses
in Kellington were affected, but several came very close
to being flooded, with water nearly up to their back doors.
Some residents were evacuated to Selby Leisure Centre,
and the only way in and out of the village was via Low
Street.

The
Old Willows on the Devil's Elbow
|
How
many people, I wonder watched the gradual disappearance
of the clump of old willows on the Devil's Elbow? In 1990,
a Little Owl was often to be seen perched in the middle
of the 3 trees. These photos were taken over an 8 year period,
between 1990 and 1998.
