In
June, Robbie Beechey, [who up till then had been webmaster
of these pages] and Zak transferred to Kellington Flyball
Club. John Parker, also a Kellington resident, then took
over the design and running of a new website for the club,
which can be found at
http://www.hillamhotdogs.co.uk/
These
pages will remain active, for those who wish to refer
to the Club's activities over the past 18 months or so.

Middlesbrough,
6 May, 2006

Millie
achieved her Flyball Dog award at this tournament, and ran very
well all day, helping to win all our races, taking 1st place
in Division 6. She will make a big difference to the team, as
being small, we can now run at the lowest height, but as a terrier,
she is lively, fast and very determined.
Well,
we're back into the Flyball outdoor season now, and the team
went to Ryecroft Farm for their 1st outing. Unfortunately, once
again the team experienced some fitness problems, with Millie
missing her debut because of an injury, This hit hard, as Millie
is the height dog, leaving her team mates, Tara, Holly and newcomers
Breeze and Frodo, to run at full height. With Zak unavailable
and Megan easing in gently after her cruciate ligament injury,
unfortunately they were not able to run at near their seed time,
and didn't come home this time with rosettes.
The
2nd tournament should have been on Mayday Bank Holiday weekend,
once again over the Pennines, but bad luck has hit for a 3rd
time - both Tara and Frodo are unwell, though expected to recover
in time to run at Middlesbrough on the 1st weekend in May. This
will be the 1st camping weekend, and all being well, we will
have a full complement, as Millie, Megan, Tara and Frodo should
be fit to run, and Zak will also be available - almost enough
for 2 teams - a luxury we've not experienced for a couple of
years now. Let's hope we have had all our bad luck, they do
say it comes in threes.
Kennel
Cough hits the team.
Unfortunately,
some of the team dogs attending recent tournaments have caught
Kennel Cough, and as a result have had to withdraw from the
Yorkshire Bouncers Tournament which was to have been held at
Selby College on the 4th and 5th of March. So many other teams
have also had to withdraw because they too had contracted Kennel
Cough that the tournament has had to be cancelled - hopefully
this break will allow the outbreak to die down before the start
of the summer season.
The
first 2 tournaments in 2006 for the Hot Dogs took place
on February 4 [Selby College] and on February 11th [Newark Show
Ground]
Unfortunately
the team did not achieve a rosette at either venue, but nevertheless,
felt that both tournaments were a team success. Millie has now
begun to run in the senior divisions, and is well on the way
to becoming a flyball dog, consistently performing very well
indeed. Its nice to see Claire back with us, and her two dogs,
Breeze and Frodo both performed well.Carole and Stan's caravan
made a very welcome team base - the weather was pretty cold
for both tournaments.
Breeze's
son, Foster, who belongs to Carole and Stan, is coming along
very well indeed , and will be making his Starter debut before
long. Megan, another of Carole and Stan's dogs, is recovering
well from a damaged cruciate ligament, but will not be running
this coming season, and will be sorely missed.
Three
dogs have retired - Sep[10] and Tag[9] completely, and Jenna
[7] has retired from flyball - she will concentrate on agility
for the rest of her sporting career. Pippa is giving a very
clear indication that she much prefers agility to flyball -
she 's not too bothered about bringing the ball back down the
run!
Jenna
and Zippy both passed the Kennel Club's Bronze award, with Milly
only just missing out - she broke her stay, having passed every
other section. Hopefully, she'll get it when the next course
starts, with Megan and Foster having a go too.
December
3rd, at the Doncaster Belle Stars indoor Tournament at Doncaster
Race Course, was the launch day for the Hot Dogs new Team Banner.
We are amongst the 1st of the Northern teams to adopt this style,
and it looks very smart.
Millie
was the only Hot Dog involved in this tournament, as a family
bereavement and Megan's cruciate ligament injury have meant
it was difficult to field a division team.
Millie
ran with another Kellington dog, Charlie, in a Starter team
formed from the Tykes and the Breakaways, and Sue and John were
delighted to come back with a 4th place rosette
The
weekend of August 6th / 7th has proved to be a good one for
the team.
The
Hot Spots came 4th in Division 5 at the Tykes tournament on
York Racecourse on Saturday, despite the fact that Carole had
to run Zak as Robbie had injured her knee.
That
injury also meant that our Starter team had to withdraw, so
Millie joined the Kellington Power Racers starter team on the
Sunday, and ran very well indeed, especially as she did not
know the dogs she was running with.

On
the Agility front, Caroline and Jenna went to the Scunthorpe
show, where they won promotion out of the Elementary class,
by coming 3rd in Elementary Agility - photos to follow. They
also took an 18th place rosette, but to win out of Elementary
was really the dream come true for Caroline.

Maddie
|
The
Hot Dogs would like to welcome new team members Michelle,
with 10 month old collie, Maddie, and Margaret and her
daughters, Catherine and Gemma with their 2 dogs, Gina
and Cody
Gina
is a Golden Retriever and Cody is an 18 week old labrador
pup who is joining Pippa and Foster in the Nursery class.
The
Nursery class is mainly for puppy socialisation, and
to get them used to coming quickly to their owners even
when very exciting things are happening all around them,
but as you can see, Stan has made puppy jumps which
are almost at ground level, so that they can get used
to bringing their ball back between jumps and nets.
All 3 love this, and we have to strictly limit the number
of runs they are allowed to do each session.

Zak
has now achieved Flyball Dog Intermediate

Zak
has now collected 1002 points, and will shortly receive
the BFA Landmark certificate, Flyball Dog Intermediate.
Kellington residents may remember Zak's photo appearing
in the Corner shop window a couple of years ago when
he and his litter brother, aged just 8 months old, were
seeking a new home as their owner had become ill and
was no longer able to look after them.
Zak
stayed in Kellington, living with Steve, but unfortunately
Steve also became ill and was unable to keep him. He
next went to live at the Red Lion, but it was very quickly
clear that he was not going to settle there - he needed
someone with him constantly as he was becoming very
insecure and Wayne and Michelle had work to do in the
bar.
He
came to live with us in January, 2003, aged 11 months,
and as we already had a collie bitch, Zippy, only 6
weeks older than he was, settled in straight away with
our 4 dogs. He loved his flyball training from the start,
and qualified as Flyball Dog [200 points] in his 1st
sanctioned tournament at 18 months old.
If
any of his previous owners visit this page - you can
be very proud of Zak. He is still the lovely, good natured
dog that you knew, and is making a fast and reliable
Flyball dog as well.

Caroline
and Jenna competed at the North Derbyshire Agility Show held
at Bakewell on the 18th/19th June 2005.
To
Caroline's great delight they came 9th in Novice Agility - a
great achievement, as they only began the sport a couple of
years ago, and as well as being very large classes, the Novice
classes are open to any handler whose dog has not won out of
that class. [ Elementary and Starter classes are only open to
handlers, as well as dogs, who have not won out of those levels]
They also managed to pick up a 15th place rosette that day as
well
Other
Hillam Hot Dogs trying their hand -or should it be paws - at
agility are Megan, Tag, Zippy, Zak and now Millie, and Amy is
eagerly waiting for Sammie to be ready to start, though it will
be another year before Foster and Pippa can begin their formal
agility and flyball training.

We
have recently been joined by 2 new families, both with
potential height dogs.
Millie,
a Border Terrier, lives in Kellington, and is almost ready
to have a tryout in Starters, while Eric is definitely
the Hot Dogs' secret weapon - he's a very pretty miniature
dachshund, and I'm not sure that there are any other dachshunds
currently running in Flyball teams. He's doing well, and
we are eagerly looking forward to seeing him run with
the team.
We
have 2 other starter dogs coming along too, Sammie, who
is still too young to run in Starters, and Saffie who
is a very fit 10 year old rescue dog, and who is enjoying
learning to play Flyball.
Sammie,
Saffie and Eric are being trained by junior handlers Amy,
Stacey and Jack.
Both
Millie and Sammie love their practice sessions, and we
look forward to seeing them enter their first starter
tournaments
before too long. [Photos from Stan]

This
week as well, we are being joined by not one but two puppies.
Carol
and Stan have added Foster to their household

| While
this little lady, Pippa, has joined Caroline's family -
these 2 will hopefully be running in late summer next year |
