Kellington Village

sketch map of kellington

This map represents the relative positions of the various streets and landmark buildings, and is intended to help those who do not know the village as it is now to see where the following photographs fit into the village layout - it is by no means an accurate map.

To the North of the village are arable fields and a footpath system, leading to the river Aire, Beal and the A19 at Chapel Haddlesey.

To the South of the village is the A645, Eggborough, Whitley Bridge and the M62 and the Canal.

The A645 also runs past the Western edge of the village, on its way to Knottingley, while the A19 runs down the Eastern edge linking Selby and Doncaster.

As can be seen from these photographs, most of the buildings in the village are modern, and the vast majority of the older village properties have been extensively remodelled too. In fact, the village today looks totally different to the village as it was only 40 years ago. Manor Garth was built during the fifties and was the first large developement, followed by Pickhaven Garth [late sixties]and Water Garth / Roall Lane, [early seventies]

Plough Garth, Hawthorn Garth, Tithe Barn Way, Marsh Lane Gardens and Bakersfield are the other major developements, and there is also new housing along Ings Lane, together with the smaller Ings Court and Manor Farm Close. New housing has also been erected along Main Street between the older property and in various other sites around the village.
