Blackheart
Blackheart
are Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington.
Just three years in they are widely regarded as the
fastest rising stars of the new folk generation having
become established for both their live concerts, their
outstanding debut album Indigo and now
their brand new CD 'Invisible'.
The
last three years have seen them headline their own
successful tours across the UK, Scotland and Ireland,
a major city tour as guest of Jared Osmond of the
famous Osmond family, a TV commercial soundtrack and
worldwide radio play including Radio 2 Spotlight Song
of the Day twice.
Their
songwriting blends folk, country and even rock influences
to create a unique style of beautifully crafted, instantly
memorable songs that has been christened by the media
urban folk. Their highly personal songs
paint pictures of their lives with subjects such as
hometowns, marriage, faith, redundancy, bereavement
and even suicide all being treated with the sensitive,
intellectual lyrical observation that is becoming
the trademark of their work.

On
Thursday, 18th March, 2010, the Village Hall became
the venue for one of Blackheart's live concerts.
The
Hall itself looked amazing - set out with candle lit
tables, the performance area attractively set out and
lit up, and with a good sized audience.
All
those who have been involved in the refurbishment of
the Hall must have felt justifiably proud of their achievements
when they looked round at the scene.
The
concert itself was in 2 halves, with tea, coffee and
biscuits being provided in the interval by members of
the Village Hall commitee, though most people had also
brought their own beer and wine to enjoy with the music
- that and the wonderful music made for a great relaxed
atmosphere throughout the whole evening - it must be
many, many years since the Village Hall has hosted an
evening of this kind, but hopefully many more similar
events will follow.
Blackheart
will be returning for another concert in the Autumn

Farmers' market - Saturday, June 5th
|
Despite
the competition from the Craft Fair being held in Eggborough,
the Farmer's Market, held in the village Hall on Saturday
3rd October was very well attended, with the the most
popular items disappearing very quickly - pork sausages
were probably the fastest seller of the day. Alan, the
butcher, has promised to bring a lot more next time.
All the stallholders had a good day, with very little
stuff remaining by the end of the morning - and they've
taken note of requests for what we'd like to buy next
time.

The
Village Hall Committee would like to thank everybody
who contributed to the huge success of this event,
including all those who bought refreshments, which
raised £68 to put into the Village Hall fund.
It was good to see that all the village social groups
were represented - the Church, the Guides, the Community
Centre and the Village Hall, and that so many people
came to support the event. The weather was kind, and
remained dry throughout, so that visitors could wander
round the village green, enjoying the various stalls
and listening to the excellent entertainment provided
by the Selby Scout Band.
Chris
Grundy, a falconer, had one of the stands, with 2
of his Harris Hawks and an owl.

The
Village Hall committee would like to say a big thank
you to Jane Hammill of Lyndon House, Kellington, for
her kind and generous donation of £60 to the
hall funds. This was raised at her 'Mad Hatters Tea
Party' on 6th August, by selling wonderful tea and
cakes in the garden.
Some of Jane's beautiful hats and fascinators were
also on display for people to see or try on.
Thanks again, Jane.

Yorkshire Day, Saturday, 1st August, 2009, was celebrated
in Kellington with a special day at the now completely renovated
Village Hall with a collection of stalls selling Yorkshire
produce. Much more than just a mini farmers' market, it was
a very enjoyable social occasion, where villagers could sit
over a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit to chat while they
shopped, and it was very well attended.
There
was a good cross section of stalls, including a butcher specialising
in beef from Dexter cattle, who was also selling hot sandwiches,
a cheese stall, a pie stall, a stall selling delicious jams,
jellies and chutneys, a home made cake stall, a vegetable
and flower stall, a confectionary stall, a bric a brac stall
and outside, a fish stall. There was also a tombola and raffle,
and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were represented too.
The
whole event was so successful that the Parish Council will
be following this event up by organising a Farmers' Market
on the 1st Saturday of every month, between 9am and 1pm, beginning
on Saturday, October 3rd. It will include stalls selling meat,
fish, cheese, pies, cakes, confectionary and vegetables.
In
addition, the fish stall will be outside the village hall
every Tuesday between 1.15 pm and 2.15 pm.
Any
vendor who wishes to participate in the market please

Early Days
Yorkshire Water
came along to Kellington during July, 2007 to help make the Village
Hall into the kind of place we all want as a centre for village activities

The 1st team,
who came on Tuesday, July 11th
|
Yorkshire
Water employees will be making their way to Kellington, near
Goole, over the next few weeks where they will be well and truly
getting
into the community spirit.
Two teams
of ten from the water company will be taking part in the latest
Business in the Community Cares Challenge which will see them
giving
Kellington village hall a much-needed makeover.
The hall
is in dire need of improvement in order to return it to being
the
focal point of the village and make it an enjoyable facility
for the local
residents to enjoy.
The first
team, who will be participating in the challenge on Tuesday
July
11, have been tasked with removing the old fencing, tidying
the existing
hawthorn boundary hedge and removing the graffiti from the hall's
exterior
walls. The graffiti will be removed using a specialist anti-gaffiti
kit
which has been donated by Syntec Chemicals.
The old
coke store footings were removed a few weeks ago by Yorkshire
Water's service partners DrainsAid.
On Tuesday
July 18, the second team will take off where the first team
finished by planting new hedging, levelling the grounds and
seeding with
grass, tidying the sprawling vegetation and laying a pebble
path.
Team leader
for the challenge, John Parker, a systems support technician
for Yorkshire Water and also a Kellington resident, said: "We
are all
really looking forward to getting started with this huge project,
our aim
is for the hall to be enjoyed by the whole local community.
Not only do
these challenges allow us to give back to the local community,
they also
provide a unique teambuildng experience.I would like to thank
DrainsAid and
Syntec for helping us to make this happen."
|

Here
are some photos of Brendan McMahon and Wayne Chappell, who
came to the village hall from DrainsAid.
They came on Saturday 17th June and spent several hours sorting
the open drain at the rear of the hall and removing the coke
store base.
They worked extremely hard in very hot sunshine and we would
like to thank them very much for their efforts.
